"The Bicycling Comedian"
Tom Snyders, "The Bicycling Comedian," has been riding a bicycle to all his stand-up comedy performances throughout the United States for the past
20 years. In that time, he has pedaled more than
142,000 miles and to all 50 states and 23 countries on five continents. See a map of Tom's
U.S. route. For his entire 20-year route, go to
www.myspace.com/bicyclingcomedian.
Tom has performed at more than 200 comedy clubs and has made ten national television
appearances -- his most recent on Good Morning America. He's also appeared on LIVE with Regis and Kathie Lee (three times), Comedy Central and ESPN. Tom has been a featured performer at the "Just For Laughs" International Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada. He's also performed at comedy festivals in both Sydney and Perth, Australia
and in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In addition to performing at comedy clubs, festivals, and bike events, Tom is regularly booked as a speaker for business conferences. A very unfunny near fatal bike accident in Los Angeles in 1995 eventually made Tom into a renowned motivational speaker.

Pedaling to Hawaii Tom finally achieved his longtime goal of pedaling his bike to all 50 states. You guessed it -- even that elusive 50th state, Hawaii!
On Sept. 24, 2003, Tom arrived in Vancouver by bicycle and boarded the cruise ship Carnival Spirit. He placed his fully-loaded touring bike on a stationary stand on deck and pedaled eight hours a day until the ship reached Maui on Sept. 30. Thus making him the first person to ever "pedal" to Hawaii.
Snyders was not a stowaway on board, he performed his comedy show for passengers in the evening.
During his 12-day stay on Maui, Snyders rode his bicycle 38 miles uphill to the 10,000-foot summit of the volcano Haleakala. "Everyone else was taking a van to the top and then coasting down on their bikes," Snyders explains. "I was the only one crazy enough to pedal a bike loaded with 100 pounds of packs to the top before enjoying the free ride back down. Maybe they had the right idea because that climb nearly killed me!"
Tom re-boarded the Carnival Spirit and pedaled back to the mainland, arriving in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 18. From there, he pedaled up the coast to Los Angeles (on roads, not the cruise ship).
But that wasn't the end of Tom's cruise-ship crusades. Just for kicks, Tom again boarded the Carnival Spirit and pedaled through the Panama Canal! Stops on the way included Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica. At each port, Tom rode his bike off the ship and sought out the most remote roads, villages and beaches for cycling and exploring.
